Operating Officer

KORA is a sourdough and viennoiserie bakery in Athens, Greece. We use long fermentation methods, which make our products more nutritious and digestible than conventionally produced breads. We search for the finest ingredients on the market, championing dedicated growers and producers across the country. We are a values-driven business that gives back to the community by donating to charities through our sales, running a low carbon production facility and practicing low-waste initiatives.

KORA is looking for an Operating Officer to oversee operations at our current production and sales facility and ensure proper transition and scale in our new production facility and future sales facilities. They will play the critical role in overseeing the day-to-day operations of our bakery and maintaining and expanding them as the business grows. This position requires a hands-on leader with a passion for baking, strong operational expertise, and the ability to scale operations while maintaining our commitment to quality and community. This is a demanding, all-hands-on-deck position that requires holistic thinking, resilience and strong problem-solving skills.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Operational Management:
   • Oversee daily operations of production facility and transfers of goods to both retail and wholesale, ensuring efficiency and effectiveness in all areas.
   • Implement and improve operational systems, processes, and policies to support the bakery’s goals.
   • Ensure compliance with food safety standards, health regulations, and quality control measures.
   • Oversee maintenance of production facility, machinery and equipment, as well as general store maintenance. This includes management of third parties like repair crews and plumbers. Oversight of utilities ie water and electricity and interface between private business and utility.
2. Supply Chain and Inventory Management:
   • Manage the supply chain to ensure the timely and cost-effective procurement of ingredients and materials.
   • Oversee inventory management to minimize waste and optimize stock levels of ingredients and packaging.
   • Oversee distribution of baked goods and prepared ingredients to retail and wholesale locations.
   • Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers and vendors.
3. Technical Management:
   • Support and knowledge of our bakery production systems.
   • Play a major role in installing and implementing ERP system, have excellent knowledge of bakery functions to integrate properly. Oversee all tech services relating to production and output, as well as in-store systems.
4. Wholesale Customer Experience:
   • Ensure exceptional customer service standards are maintained across all wholesale customers.
   • Gather and analyze customer feedback to continually improve the customer experience on wholesale.
5. Financial Integration:
   • Work closely with the administration team to have an oversight on costs, and provide solutions for reductions or optimizations wherever possible.
   • Contribute to financial analysis from an operational perspective ie cost of transportation, ingredients and overheads.
   • Contribute to cost reduction through better deals with suppliers and operational efficiencies.

Qualifications:

• Proven experience in a senior operational role, in the food and beverage, e-commerce or production industry.
• Strong problem solving and leadership skills.
• Excellent strategic planning and execution capabilities.
• Financial acumen and experience with budgeting and financial management.
• Understanding of food safety regulations and quality control.
• Exceptional communication skills to liaise with internal and external teams.
• Passion for artisanal baking and commitment to quality and sustainability.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience in a bakery or similar artisanal food production environment.
• Experience with retail and wholesale operations.
• Proven track record of successfully scaling a business.

Bread Baker
Full-time position
Start date: ASAP

We are looking for an individual with a passion for bread to join our bread team. The role will include all stages of making bread – including weighing, mixing, fermentation, shaping and baking. They will need to be able to work carefully and with a sense of urgency. Details are extremely important as errors can destroy production. The job is physically demanding and there will be some lifting involved. There is potential for the individual to work on our pastry and viennoiserie section.

The ideal candidate will have had experience in a kitchen or bakery and be able to think critically and work efficiently. They will need to be able to work flexible hours (early mornings/nights included). Because of that a drivers license is preferable. This is an entry-level position.
